Healing Touch
Healing Touch is an energy-based approach to health and healing, aimed at restoring balance in the human energy system. Mary Kay Foley, physical therapist and coordinator of St. Luke’s Integrative Therapies Program, will introduce you to the background and benefits of Healing Touch and how it complements conventional health care. A brief Healing Touch session or an opportunity to learn some of the techniques will be offered.

Breast Cancer Networking and Information Group
This group provides a connection with others who have been diagnosed with breast cancer for information and support. Meetings are facilitated by Gay Miremont, licensed clinical social worker. AED Heartsaver CPR
Learn how to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in addition to the American Heart Association course on recognizing and responding to emergency situations involving infants, children, and adults. Good for beginners and those who need to renew their Heartsaver Certification. Pre-registration required, call 727-8487. Please no walk-ins. Cost: $50

Diabetes Self-Management Education Program
Whether you are newly diagnosed, or have been living with diabetes, you can learn more about improving your quality of life and preventing diabetes-related complications. Our ongoing programs are led by a nurse and dietitian team committed to providing quality education and self-care skills to help patients manage their diabetes. There are separate, interactive courses specific to Type I, Type II, and gestational diabetes. Please call 727-8356 for more information.

Free Car Seat Safety Checks
Our certified child passenger safety technician can help you install your car seat before your baby is born, fit an older child to his or her seat, teach you proper installation, and check for recalls. Call 727-8776 for more information.

What’s Happening to Me? 
Puberty Education Classes for Girls ages 9-12 and their parents
This three-part series is a fun and interactive way to help girls and parents get a better idea about the bodily changes and emotional ups and downs that accompany early adolescence.  Topics include: anatomy and physiology, emotional and physical changes, human reproduction, relationships with parents and friends, hygiene, body image, and self-esteem. A parent must accompany each child. Mom and Dad are both welcome to attend. Pre-registration required by Friday, September 17. Cost: $20 ($5 for each additional sibling)

St. Luke's YAK! (Youth Adult Konnections)

YAK! is a healthy youth development initiative based on the Developmental Assets philosophy and supported by a coalition of partners. YAK! provides programs and services for young people that help them be safe, healthy, and active participants in our community.

BCTAC is the high school group of St. Luke’s YAK! It is a fun, hardworking youth action council committed to improving the community by involving young people in community service, creating programs and services to address youth needs, and building Developmental Assets.

BCTAC II is the middle school group of St. Luke's YAK!, working to improve the school and community for young people. BCTAC II helps educate our youth about building Developmental Assets, largely by planning and implementing community service projects.

“Be the Change” Blaine County Diversity Dramatist Troupe
The dramatist troupe is made up of Wood River High School and Wood River Middle School students who are professionally trained to use theatre as a way to discuss diversity issues in our community. Performances are in place for the Hailey Rotary and Cox Communications for 2010. Please call if your organization or business is interested in having the troupe perform.

Healthy Choices Panels: “Today Affects Tomorrow”
Discussion panels are provided for Wood River High School and Silver Creek High School throughout the 2010-2011 school year. The panels present information to help teens make good choices to be healthy and successful and provide them the opportunity to meet professionals in the community to answer their questions. Tpics include drug use, sexual activity, alcohol, and healthy relationships. Panelists include Jenny Stireman, NP-C, St. Luke’s Obstetrics and Gynecology; Joy Zimmerman, RN, South Central Public Health District; Deborah Robertson, MD, emergency medicine, St. Luke’s.

Life Skills Series: How to Make it in the “Real World”
St. Luke’s YAK! is now partnering with the Wood River High School "Future Center” for our Life Skills Series. Beginning in October, local professionals will come to the high school to educate students about strategies for being successful in the "real world.” Topics will include: banking, real estate, car purchase and maintenance, and sexual health.

St. Luke's YAK! is always looking for new community service and outreach opportunities. Send us your ideas!

Childbirth Preparation
A six-week series promoting a healthy, safe, and educated birth.  

Home Study or Customized Childbirth Preparation
“Class in a basket” childbirth education materials for women who are either high risk or on bed rest and unable to attend regular childbirth preparation classes. Additional customized instruction may be available upon request. Please call for more information.

Childbirth Refresher
Offered to parents who have previously taken a childbirth preparation course. Review of elaxation techniques, updated information, and sibling preparation. Includes a tour of the Labor and Delivery suites.

Breastfeeding Successfully
A two-hour prenatal breastfeeding education class designed to help start your breastfeeding experience with confidence and success. 

New Moms' Group
Provides newborn and breastfeeding support and an opportunity to ask questions and learn the basics of caring for your baby. The presence of professionals, as well as other new parents, makes this group a comfortable and valuable experience. Bring your baby and your lunch, if you wish. Facilitated by Linda Parsons, RN, board certified lactation consultant, and Larsen Peterson, Childbirth Education coordinator.
