Vascular Surgery

Our board certified vascular surgeons diagnose and treat diseases that affect your blood vessels, such as narrowing or blockage of the arteries in your arms or legs. This is called peripheral vascular disease or peripheral artery disease and means you have poor blood flow and may need a procedure such as angioplasty.

    Biography

    Eric G. Bluemn, MD, PhD, RPVI specializes in all aspects of vascular surgery including aortic disease, carotid disease, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, hemodialysis access, and chronic venous disease. He is trained in both open surgical and minimally invasive endovascular techniques and is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery. 

    Dr. Bluemn completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He attended medical school at the University of Washington and completed his PhD at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as part of the University of Washington Medical Scientist Training Program, followed by completing an integrated vascular surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts.

    Biography

    Jeffrey J. Gilbertson, MD, FACS specializes in carotid disease, aortic aneurysm, and endovascular surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgeons, and the Rocky Mountain Vascular Society. Dr. Gilbertson is also a member of the Idaho Medical Association, Ada Medical Society, Frederick A. Coller Surgical Society, Pacific Northwest Vascular Society, and the American Association for Vascular Surgery.

    Prior to his medical education, Dr. Gilbertson earned his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College.

    Biography

    Christian A. Hamlat, MD, MPH, RPVI, FACS specializes in the management of aortic and peripheral aneurysmal disease; carotid and peripheral arterial occlusive disease; chronic venous disease; and long-term hemodialysis access using both standard open surgical as well as endovascular, less invasive procedures. Dr. Hamlat earned his bachelor's degree in molecular biology from Princeton University. He is board certified in General and Vascular Surgery.

    Biography

    Philippe A. Masser, MD, RVPI specializes in acute and chronic venous disease, dialysis access, arterial occlusive and aneurysm disease, and cerebrovascular disease. He primarily sees patients at the Boise VA Medical Center, but periodically cares for inpatients at St. Luke's Boise.

    Dr. Masser earned his bachelor's degree from Williams College and completed his general surgery training at the University of Washington. He served four years as a general surgeon in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

    Biography

    Brian Matteson, MD, FACS, RPVI specializes in carotid artery disease, aortic and peripheral aneurysms, peripheral artery disease, hemodialysis access, and minimally invasive endovascular and open surgical modalities. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

    Dr. Matteson earned his bachelor's degree in physiology from the University of Minnesota. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of New Mexico, and his vascular fellowship at the University of Utah.
