The St. Luke’s Health Foundation presents the Ralph J. Comstock, Jr. Light of Philanthropy Award each year to a deserving individual who has significantly benefited our communities with dedicated service and enduring commitment to advancing philanthropic and humanitarian causes.

This year’s recipient is Dan Krahn, a successful business and health care leader for more than 40 years.

The award  is “one of the most significant ways St. Luke’s recognizes important individuals for their outstanding achievements in leadership, philanthropy and humanitarianism,” according to the foundation.

Since 1996, leaders representing a variety of industries and arenas, from business to education, have earned the honor.

Dan Krahn
"Dan Krahn is incredibly dedicated to his responsibilities,” said colleague and good friend Karen Kellie. “He prepares thoroughly, chooses deliberately, and devotes more time than anyone I've ever known. Dan is about relationships and service to others.”

Krahn gives intentionally and generously, inspiring others to support their local communities in meaningful ways, the foundation noted.

He began serving on McCall and Cascade Hospital boards decades ago. As a member of the St. Luke’s Health System Board of Directors, Krahn has helped lead the transformation of health care facilities and services in our region to improve access and expand services.

Krahn and his wife Nancy own Krahn’s Home Furnishings, a third-generation family business in downtown McCall. Their business has supported local and regional programs, projects and community improvement efforts.

“Dan has been respectful, patient and considerate in all his efforts and work, always trying to reach outcomes that give benefit to the most people. He has had a consistent commitment to quality and high standards,” said Gary Fletcher, former St. Luke’s chief operating officer.

“Dan has long recognized the importance of people in health care and communities. He knows the community must be involved to accept and support services, institutions, and change therefore he has provided and promoted involvement wherever he could.”

Krahn is also known for funding projects to provide bike helmets for kids in need, coordinating excess food supply donations for schools and food banks during the pandemic and opening his home to exchange students through the Rotary Club.

Krahn is seen as a trusted and valued member of each organization and community that he supports.

Krahn will be honored on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Boise Center East in downtown Boise. A no-host cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. Dinner and the award program begin at 7 p.m., followed by live music and dancing.

Tickets are available and can be purchased by contacting the St. Luke’s Health Foundation at 208-381-2123 or by email at [email protected].
