Description

Our total joint class supports you on your path to living with a new hip or knee. We can help reduce your anxiety, control your pain, and help you learn what to expect during your recovery.

During class, you will learn about:

  • Special equipment used on the day of surgery and during hospitalization that you will need to obtain before surgery
  • Preparations you'll need to make at home to ensure a safe recovery environment
  • Methods for managing pain, nausea, and constipation
  • Activities and medication used to prevent blood clots
  • Length of hospital stay and what to expect upon discharge
  • Safety while moving and changing positions
  • Methods for reducing swelling and discomfort after surgery
  • Plans for a safe discharge home
  • Special equipment needed prior to going home

This class is for patients, coaches, and caregivers. We strongly recommend you attend with a "coach," a friend or family member who will support you through your joint replacement surgery and recovery.

Class Schedule (Mountain Standard Time)

  • Wednesdays from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
  • Fridays from 8:45 to 10 a.m.

The first 10 minutes of the class are to provide attendees an opportunity to connect and get situated.

Five minutes before the top of the hour (example: 2:55 p.m. with the class starting at 3 p.m.) the instructor will do a roll call.

Attendance

  • Attend prior to your joint replacement surgery.
  • It is highly recommended for your coach/care giver to also attend.
    • Your coach can join from wherever he or she is located by sharing the link in the email you receive after scheduling your class.
  • If you join the class through the internet or mobile application, your name will show up on the participation list and we will confirm your attendance from that. Your name will be visible to other participants in the class. No other information will be shared by the class instructor.
  • If you are calling in via your phone/audio approach, we will ask you to announce your name to confirm attendance. You can respond with just your first name and first initial of your last name. Also, part of your phone number will be visible to other participants.
