Caring for Children at Risk
Child abuse means doing something that hurts a child. Neglect means not giving or doing something that a child needs. If you suspect child abuse or neglect, call the police or child protective services. You don't have to give your name. If a child is in immediate danger or has been badly hurt, don't wait. Call 911 or other emergency services right away.
St. Luke’s sees children through our Children at Risk Evaluation Service (CARES) program after a referral from child protective services, law enforcement agencies, the court, or a health care provider. We provide medical exams and treatment, legal documentation, and follow-up referrals, treating children in an age-sensitive manner to reduce further emotional trauma.

St. Luke's CARES (Children at Risk Evaluation Services)
Every Child Deserves Safety
Every year, more than 1,000 children are evaluated for alleged abuse at our offices in Boise, Twin Falls, and Rupert, and at our Foster Care Clinic, where children coming into foster care receive a complete medical evaluation.
Prevention is also vital to the CARES mission, with resources and referrals for parents, a database for research, legislative input for prevention and treatment of child abuse, and lectures and training for professionals and the public on issues of child abuse and neglect.
