Helping You Understand and Manage Your Seizures
Epilepsy is a common neurological condition that causes recurring seizures, which result from abnormal bursts of electrical activity in the brain. These seizures can affect muscle control, movement, speech, vision, or awareness. While they’re usually brief, they can be unsettling. The good news is that with the right treatment, most people can manage their seizures effectively.
At St. Luke’s, our team of experts provides a clear diagnosis and works closely with you and your primary care provider to create a personalized treatment plan that supports both your medical and emotional well-being. If seizures are complex or difficult to manage, you may be referred to one of our fellowship-trained epilepsy specialists (epileptologists) for further evaluation, which may include admission to our inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at St. Luke’s Boise.
In-Depth Diagnostic and Treatment Services

The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at St. Luke’s Boise offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for individuals with seizures that are difficult to diagnose or manage. Our specially trained team provides 24/7 monitoring to evaluate seizure activity and contributing factors, helping to guide personalized treatment options.
We also support patients being considered for seizure surgery by identifying the precise location of seizure activity in the brain.
Patients are typically admitted to the EMU by one of our fellowship-trained epilepsy physicians, Sergei Kashirny, MD and Robert Weschler, MD. If you or a loved one may benefit from inpatient evaluation, please speak with your neurologist or primary care provider about a referral to our epilepsy team.
St. Luke’s Boise EMU is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) as a Level 3 epilepsy center—recognized for its expertise and ability to provide the highest level of medical evaluation and treatment for complex epilepsy cases. St. Luke’s is proud to be the only facility in Idaho with this accreditation.
