CURRENT RESEARCH

The BRITE Trial

The BRITE (Building Resilience in Teens through Education) Trial is a research study focused on teen mental health and suicide prevention in schools.

By delivering suicide prevention education to students in 8th, 9th, and/or 10th grade, the study compares two programs to learn what works best to prevent suicidal thoughts and actions. Both programs are evidence-based and have been shown to be effective at reducing suicide attempts in teens.

SPARC (Suicide Prevention Among Recipients of Care) was the largest suicide prevention study ever conducted in Idaho, with 1,520 participants. It compared two evidence-based follow-up interventions for patients at risk of suicide in emergency department and primary care settings.

The study produced a nationally endorsed Caring Contacts Implementation Toolkit and study results have been presented at 10 national conferences, helping health systems and state 988 hotlines adopt proven strategies to keep patients safe.
