Anthony M. Buoncristiani, MD, FAAOS (“Dr. Tony”) is dual-board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. Dr. Tony’s expertise involves the comprehensive management of knee and shoulder injuries/disorders and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. He routinely performs trauma surgery and management of all musculoskeletal disorders, both pediatric and adult.
Locally, he provides medical coverage for the Sun Valley Suns hockey team, the Wood River football team, and the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation ski team. Dr. Tony implemented the Wood River Valley’s concussion management program (ImPACT) which is being used by all local sports programs and the Blaine County School District. He often speaks at conferences, has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has been a contributor to several books.
Dr. Tony is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Medicine and served five years of active duty in the United States Navy as a flight surgeon. He is the recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal and the prestigious Air Medal for participating in a humanitarian evacuation operation in Eritrea/Ethiopia. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Washington, and his sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh under the direction of Dr. Freddie Fu and Dr. Christopher Harner. During his fellowship, Dr. Tony was the assistant team physician for the Division I Pittsburgh Panthers football team and the Pittsburgh Penguins professional hockey team.
In his free time, Dr. Tony enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and spending time with his wife and three children.
