Nutrition Services for Bariatric Patients

Our team of registered dietitian nutritionists is dedicated to helping you improve your health through evidence-based nutrition education and counseling both before and after surgery.

Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is an essential component of comprehensive health care. It includes:

    Biography

    Amber Johnson, RD supports the nutritional needs of patients before and after bariatric surgery. She is passionate about teaching and helping people, particularly those managing diabetes and/or embarking on a weight loss journey, through instilling behavior changes that support a healthy lifestyle. She is a natural nurturer and has always been drawn to helping people feel happy and comfortable.

    Outside of St. Luke's, Amber serves as president and founder of Ingrain, Inc., a company offering online nutrition education to chefs and teachers. Prior to joining our bariatric nutrition team, Amber taught nutrition at a culinary school and supported stroke rehabilitation patients at Saint Alphonsus. She has also previously served families and kids through Idaho's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.

    Amber earned a bachelor's degree in biology and natural sciences at California State University, Chico and completed an internship in clinical nutrition at Oregon Health Sciences University. She spent many years in Oregon before relocating to Idaho.

    In her free time, Amber loves gardening, cooking and spending time with her husband, their three sons and their Australian shepherd. She also loves hiking, paddle boarding, and biking.

    Biography

    Jennifer Hosier, RD specializes in bariatric nutrition, supporting patients throughout their bariatric surgery experience by providing education prior to surgery and facilitating their progress during recovery and beyond. She takes a holistic approach to patient care, with attention to other aspects of lifestyle that can impact each patient's success, such as sleep hygiene, stress management, exercise, and social connections. She loves  contributing to significant lifestyle changes that help improve her patients' health, happiness, and overall quality of life.

    Jennifer also leads a bariatric surgery support group and teaches cooking and healthy living classes. She is grateful that these meetings give her opportunities to further support and build relationships with bariatric patients.  

    Prior to joining the bariatric nutrition team, Jennifer gained depth of experience working in a variety of hospital units, including medical/surgical, pediatrics, neonatal, cardiology, and oncology. She earned her bachelor's degree in nutrition at the University of Idaho.

    In her free time, Jennifer spends as much time as possible with her husband and two kids, playing outside with their dog, relaxing by the fire pit and enjoying nature.
