Pediatric Behavioral Health

The pediatric behavioral health specialists at St. Luke’s Children’s provide compassionate expertise for your child, whether he or she needs support during times of instability or help learning to cope with an ongoing condition. Our goal is to uncover the root causes of challenges and provide kids and families with tools that will help optimize wellness and quality of life.

Our experts can help you and your child adjust to challenges, reduce pain and distress, and increase functioning. We can also support your child and family in managing mental health conditions such as depression, a mood or anxiety disorder, psychosis, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, or another psychiatric condition.

Each child’s circumstances are unique, so we’ll use a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment. Depending on the situation, your child may see one or more of the following types of providers, who will cooperate with each other and your child’s primary care provider to deliver comprehensive care:

  • Psychiatrists diagnose and treat mental health conditions and guide medication management to support symptom and mood stabilization, as needed.
  • Therapists diagnose and treat mental health conditions and provide treatment through counseling, often leveraging techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Psychologists provide diagnosis, evaluation and treatment. Clinical psychologists focus on mental health conditions; and pediatric psychologists assist patients with chronic health conditions to help with pain management, adherence to a medical regimen, and coping with major medical diagnoses.
  • Neuropsychologists provide assessment, intervention, and consultation for patients with brain dysfunction such as epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, etc.
