After Garrett began having daily headaches, a large mass was discovered in his brain. It turned out to be an aggressive nerve tissue sarcoma. He and his family endured two cranial surgeries, six weeks of radiation, and 27 weeks of chemotherapy.
It was a frightening experience and the whole family struggled with both the cancer and their own fears. Garrett had a very rare cancer, but through this experience he and his family discovered that “rare” does not mean unbeatable. Garrett’s mom says they stayed as positive as possible, relied on their faith, and feel “truly blessed to have had such wonderful care from the doctors and all who cared for Garrett at St. Luke’s Children’s.”
