Stacia

Stacia is a survivor who’s been cancer-free since 2011. She is dedicated to helping other kids with cancer and even co-wrote a book about her experience, "The Girl Who Had a Big Adventure – Cancer, Chemo & Cupcakes."

Stacia was just six years old when she was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a brain tumor. The tumor was the size of a small lemon in the back of her brain, and was blocking the flow of spinal fluid between her brain and spinal column. A drain line was put in her head to reduce the pressure on her brain and eyes the very same day, and she underwent an eight-hour surgery to remove the tumor.

She couldn’t speak for several days after surgery, and didn’t walk for three weeks. Her right side was greatly impacted, and she had to re-learn many everyday tasks. She then endured six weeks of radiation, three more surgeries (eye, sinus, and appendix), and 12 months of chemotherapy.

During her treatment, she also underwent counseling and intense physical therapy. She did all this while remaining connected with her class and keeping up academically. Stacia and her family brought their own unique strength, courage, and resiliency to their fight against cancer, and Stacia continues to stay strong and active while having fun in Girl Scouts, cheerleading, singing, and swimming.
