Pharmacy Residency Programs

The St. Luke's pharmacy team is dedicated to providing safe, high quality, evidence-based pharmaceutical care that fosters efficient and effective drug therapy management in collaboration with other healthcare team members in an atmosphere of trust, respect, and mentorship. In this spirit, participants in our 12-month pharmacy residency programs work alongside and learn from experienced pharmacists who are committed to setting you up for success as a competent and confident clinical pharmacist.

St. Luke's has been developing strong pharmacy clinicians for decades. Today, our accredited residency programs span five sites with focus areas in pharmacy and community-based practices (PGY1) as well as a specialty residency in oncology (PGY2). Program participants have contributed to improvements in St. Luke's patient care and outcomes through many significant projects including the hiring medication reconciliation pharmacists, creation of an outpatient oral chemotherapy clinic, reduced readmissions through a Meds2Beds program, new safety procedures (e.g., mini-bags for vincristine administration), new clinical services (e.g., pharmacists in the emergency department and ambulatory clinics), and utilization reports and educational programs to support our staff and other disciplines.

Our residents have gone on to publish their work in peer-reviewed journals and have been recognized at national conferences for their work in improving patient care.

Our Structure

Using a decentralized practice model, St. Luke's pharmacists and pharmacy residents partner with physicians, nursing, respiratory therapy and other disciplines to maximize the patient experience and deliver positive outcomes. Because St. Luke's is a large health system, we're able to participate in multidisciplinary safety initiatives with wide-reaching impact, such as the implementation of one electronic medical record for both inpatient and outpatient services, bedside barcode administration, programmable smart infusion pumps, USP 797 IV Room standards, and automation that supplements care.

St. Luke's also serves as a experiential training site for IPPE and APPE pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy, Washington State University College of Pharmacy, and the University of Wyoming College of Pharmacy, among others.
