Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology)

St. Luke’s offers many options for patients who seek care for a variety of pelvic floor problems that affect bladder, bowel, uterine, vaginal and sexual function. Common conditions that can impact a woman's quality of life include problems with holding or emptying the bladder or bowels, pelvic or sexual pain, overactive bladder, urinary or stool leakage, uterine or bladder prolapse (cystocele), posterior vaginal wall prolapse (rectocele), vaginal pressure, urinary retention, and neurogenic bladder.

Many conditions may have both non-surgical and surgical options that can improve a woman's quality of life. While many of the common diagnostic tests and procedures are offered by both gynecologists and urologists, some are offered only by physicians with board certification in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FMPRS), also known as urogynecology. A urogynecologist can be either a gynecologist or urologist who has completed additional training focused on care of complex female pelvic conditions. St. Luke's is fortunate to have two physicians, Dr. Maggie Vuturo and Dr. Jennifer Lillemon, who are both fellowship trained in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
